How to develop persistence.
There are four simple steps which leads to the habit of persitence. They call for no great amount of intelligence, no particular amount of education, and but little time or effort. The necessary steps are:
These four steps are essential for success in all walks of life. The entire purpose of this philosophy is to enable one to take these four steps as a matter of habit.
The lead, also, to the mastery of fear, discouragement, indifference. There is magnificent reward for all who learn to take these four steps. It is the priviledge of writing one's own ticket, and of making life yield whatever price is asked.
DON'T QUIT
When things go wrong as they sometimes will When the road you're trudging seems all uphill When funds are low and debts are high You want to smile but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit Rest if you must but don't you quit Life is queer with its twists and turns As every one of us sometimes learns.
And many a failure turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than It seems to a faltering man. Often the struggler has given up When he might have captured the winner's cup.
And he learned too late when the night slipped down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure inside out The silver lining of the clouds of doubt
You can never tell how close you are It may be near when it seems so far. So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit It's when things seem worse that you mustn't quit.
For we know the Father above looks down He sees our struggles and He holds the crown He knows the way though it's rough and drear He will give strength so we need not fear.
He offers to you the refreshing cup Of the water of life - then in faith look up Continue on 'till the crown is won, Which He will give when our work is done.
Shake It Off And Step Up
A parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The mule fell into the
farmer's well. The farmer heard the mule praying - or - whatever mules do
when they fall into wells. After carefully assessing the situation, the
farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the
well was worth the trouble of saving. Instead, he called his neighbors
together and told them what had happened...and enlisted them to help haul
dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.
Initially, the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbors
continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back...a thought struck him. It
suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his
back...HE SHOULD
SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP! This he did, blow after blow.
Shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up...shake it off and step
up! He repeated to himself. No matter how painful the blows, or
distressing the situation seemed the old mule fought panic and just kept
right on SHAKING IT OFF AND STEPPING UP!
You're right! It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted,
STEPPED TRIUMPHANTLY OVER THE WALL OF THAT WELL! What seemed
like it would bury him, actually blessed him...all because of the manner in
which he handled his adversity.
THAT'S LIFE! If we face our problems and respond to them positively, and
refuse to give in to panic, bitterness, or self-pity... THE ADVERSITIES THAT
COME ALONG TO BURY US USUALLY HAVE WITHIN THEM THE POTENTIAL TO BENEFIT AND
BLESS US!
